The Dragons Nest.... It's long gone, but it was Maine's first SkatePark. (Circa 1992) 72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:ijlF-Qu2a_kJ:www.wktj.com/newsarch.htm+Dragons+nest+farmington+maine&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=6Olympic snowboarder has Farmington connections (FARMINGTON) -- The 29-year-old World Snowboarding Champion who will be representing the United State at the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy grew up in Farmington. Sean Wescott attended school in SAD 9 from fifth grade until his senior year, when he transferred to Carrabassett Valley Academy. He was an avid skateboarder who helped raise money to building the Dragon’s Nest skateboard park next to Hippach Field, which is now playground. Sean’s mother, a professor at UMF, says she expects to cry with pride when she sees her son on TV. www.centralparkskate.com/articles/skateboard.html The town of Farmington, Maine, took three years to build its park, valued at about $35,000. It was the pet project of Steve Shible the city's recreation director, who was so proud of the park that he printed up hats with its name, The Dragon's Nest. But vandalism and lack of use closed it within two years. Now it's a children's park, a slab for toddlers on tricycles. "The kids that provided the original impetus, by the time this thing opened most of those kids had changed from skateboarding to cars and girls and everything else," Shible said. "It's pretty hard to make out on a skateboard." Here's some pics of how it looks today. All the grass parts where the bowls and ditches. I bet all we have to do is some digging and the Dragons Nest could be back!
